Marie Laveau was the most renowned voodoo priestess in New Orleans during the 19th century. Legends about her magical practices and rites abound to this day, and her tomb still draws many visitors. She is depicted here with her pet snake, Zombi, performing a Voudoun ritual, with the veve of Baron Samedi drawn out in front of her.
